Research Interests

•  Polymer Networks. Hydrophilic gels (hydrogels) with special properties are my main interest. My current research activities comprise superabsorbent polymers. Interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogels are also interested.

•  Biopolymer Modification. Natural polymers from renewable resources such as polysaccharides (cellulose, chitin, starch, natural gums, …) and proteins (gelatin, collagen, …) are interested to be chemically modified (e.g., monomer grafting, IPN formation) to achieve water soluble/swellable materials with improved properties.

•  Polymers for Delivery of Bioactive Agents. Macromolecular materials may be designed for controlled delivery of bioactive agents, e.g. drugs, genes, pesticides and agrochemicals.

•  New Polymer Synthesis. Synthesis and Characterization of new monomers and polymers including polyesters, polyamides, polyurethanes and polyampholytic macromolecules are also interested.

Several chemical articles have been translated into Persian and published in the Iranian Journal of Chemistry published by Iran University Press.

Other Activities

Rahab Resin Co., Ltd. (web site:www.rahabresin.com) is the pioneer and only manufacturer of “Superabsorbent Polymers” in Iran. The hydrogels (commercially named SuperAB) are produced under the license of IPPI, to use as soil conditioners. These polymeric materials absorb and retain huge amounts of water and aqueous solutions even under pressure. As the R&D director of the chemical company, I work on market-oriented designing and preparation of new materials having desired properties.
